Nobel Peace Prize for Malala Yousafzai

Close to everyone in the world has heard of the name Malala over the past couple of years. A Pakistani rights activist for female education, Malala has inspired and uplifted countless people even though she has not reached her 18th birthday yet. At the young age of 11, Malala wrote a blog under a pseudonym for the BBC detailing her life under Taliban occupation, their attempts to take control of the valley, and her views on promoting education for girls in the Swat Valley . Her family also run a chain of schools in her local area which obviously contributed to her views in life and also how she was primarily taught by her father. She kept going along this path; talking to numerous prominent people about her lifestyle in Pakistan.

However, it was her courage that brought misfortune upon her in 2012 when she boarded her school bus. The Taliban had decided that she needed to be eliminated as she was talking to the world about them. They also boarded her bus and shot her three times in the head believing that they had stopped her. However, this was not the case. She recovered and caused an international outburst. In the time since she was attacked, Malala has accomplished more than many people do in their lifetime. She was the reason that UN petition was launched that called for all children to be in school by 2015. She was the winner of Pakistan’s first National Youth Peace Prize. She has spoken at the headquarters of the United Nations about worldwide education. Malala was granted an honorary doctorate by the University of Kings College in Halifax and even more on top of that.

However, most recently, and probably most impressively, Malala has been awarded that Nobel Peace Prize. At age 17, Malala is the youngest-ever Nobel Peace Prize laureate. This is a great accomplishment for Malala but also for women’s education and how the world perceives it. Deutsche Welle wrote in January 2013 that Yousafzai may have become “the most famous teenager in the world” and that statement seems to become more true each day. A truly inspirational girl who has already accomplished so much and means to continue the work that has already influenced the world so much already.

A pep talk for students and teachers

For someone so young, this kid knows a lot about the world. No doubt he’s a joker but listen to the message that he is trying to communicate. It can be applied to everyone and it matters.
